Sly Connect V3

Sly Connect is in its third major release. The algorithm has been optimized to improve its accuracy. The new release also includes several new features, which we describe in more detail below.

Improved Algorithm

‍We have made further improvements to the algorithm since version 2 was released. Its fundamental structure has stayed the same, but its accuracy has been improved in V3 through fine-tuning and various minor code changes.

At the request of our customers, we developed three new features within Sly Connect that we would like to share with you.

Decimal Format

Decimal numbers can be written in a variety of ways. The Swiss commonly write a number in the form of 1'000.00. Germans, on the other hand, often write the same number as 1.000,00 or in similar formats. How does Sly Connect handle this?

Previously, we "cheated" because our customers' shops tended not to sell half pieces. We were therefore able to ignore the decimals because they were always zero. Since “Custom Fields” allow great flexibility, this restriction was no longer appropriate, and Sly Connect required a solution. With the new "Decimal Format" feature, customers can now select the decimal separator they use from a list. Sly Connect is now able to handle and transmit decimal numbers in their full complexity.

Date Field

Similar to the Decimal Format, the Date Field feature improves the handling of dates in documents. Date formats come in a wide variety as well: there are not only different separators, but also different ways of writing days, months and years.

For example, consider the following variations: “14. June 2023”, “14. Jun. 23”, “14.06.23” and “06/14/23”.

All these formats can now be converted automatically into a uniform format using Sly Connect. But what is the format of a date such as 01/02/23? Is it dd/mm/yy or mm/dd/yy? This cannot be determined automatically. This edge case is addressed by a list of choices from which the user can pick the correct format.

Advanced Labeling

Advanced Labeling is the last feature we would like to mention in the Sly Connect V3 release.

Due to the increased usage of Sly Connect, we discovered that the algorithm sometimes did not recognise a field because its position varied a lot. With Advanced Labeling, a label can be selected as an anchor to easily find a value in relation to it. With this enhancement, items in complicated PDF files are recognised even if their positions change between uploads. Only the "anchor" needs to be similar enough.
